Your Body Kept Score: What Physical Symptoms Are Telling You 🌑️

The tension headaches that won't quit.

Your body is always communicating. Here's how to start listening.

You might have a tension headache that won't quit. Or your shoulders live somewhere around your ears. Maybe your jaw aches from clenching, or your lower back has been a low-grade complaint for weeks. Or you're getting sick more often than usual. Your body is talking. It's worth learning to listen.

The mind-body reality of postpartum πŸ”¬

The postpartum body is carrying an enormous amount β€” hormonally, physically, and emotionally. Stress, grief, anxiety, and exhaustion don't stay in the mind. They land in the body. The connection between emotional states and physical symptoms is not metaphorical. It's neurobiological.

Chronic cortisol suppresses the immune system, increases inflammation, tightens muscles, and disrupts digestion. When you're running on high stress for weeks or months, your body accumulates the cost.

Common physical signals worth paying attention to πŸ“‹

  • Persistent headaches β€” often linked to dehydration, tension, or disrupted sleep
  • Jaw or shoulder tension β€” classic stress holding patterns
  • Frequent illness β€” sign of an overtaxed immune system
  • Digestive upset β€” gut and stress response are intimately linked
  • Heart palpitations β€” worth ruling out thyroid issues (see Day 19)
  • Unexplained fatigue beyond what sleep would explain β€” worth a blood panel (iron, thyroid, vitamin D)

This is your body asking for something πŸ’›

Physical symptoms in the postpartum period are often communication, not catastrophe. They're worth taking seriously β€” not to catastrophize, but to respond. What does your body need more of? Less of? What signal has been there for weeks that you've been pushing through?

A simple body scan practice 🌟

Once a day β€” even for two minutes β€” close your eyes and scan from your head to your feet. Notice where you're holding tension. Notice where there's pain. Notice what feels tight or tired or off. You don't need to fix it immediately. Just noticing begins the conversation between you and your body.

You've been so focused on your baby's body β€” their feeding, their sleep, their growth. You deserve the same attentiveness turned inward. 🌱
