One month.
Thirty-ish days of keeping a tiny human alive. Of learning an entirely new skill set with zero sleep and a body that is still healing. Of loving something so much it sometimes feels like it might break you open.
You made it. And we want to check in.
π How are you actually doing?
Not "fine." Not the version you tell your mother-in-law. The real version.
Month one is one of the hardest months. The adrenaline of birth has faded. The help has often gone home. The reality of what this is β the weight and the wonder of it β has fully landed.
However you are doing right now is a valid way to be. Struggling and loving it at the same time. Thriving in some moments and barely surviving others. Feeling like yourself, or feeling like you have no idea who you are anymore.
All of it counts.
π A quick check-in for yourself
Sleep: Are you getting any kind of extended rest, even occasionally? Chronic total sleep deprivation is a medical concern, not just a lifestyle inconvenience.
Mood: Has anything lifted since the first week? If your mood has not improved β or has gotten worse β after two weeks, please reach out to your provider.
Body: Is your bleeding tapering? Is your pain manageable? Are you eating and drinking enough to function?
Connection: Do you have at least one person you can tell the truth to?
Mental load: Is the weight of tracking everything starting to feel unsustainable? Name it. Ask for help.
π©Έ GD note: One month in is a good time to confirm your 6-week OGTT is scheduled. If it is not on the calendar, ask your LCM to help schedule it today. This is the one appointment that is purely about your long-term health β and you deserve it. |
π What Month Two holds:
The second month often brings small but meaningful improvements. Babies start to sleep in slightly longer stretches. Smiles begin. The feeding rhythm settles a little. You start to feel β slowly, unevenly β like you might be getting the hang of some of it.
Not all of it. Some of it. And that is enough.
π€ From us to you

You are doing something hard and extraordinary. The fact that it is hard does not mean you are doing it wrong. It means you are doing it for real.
